Dr. Esther Schirrmacher hat an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn Islamwissenschaft und Nahostsprachen (Arabisch, Persisch, Türkisch) sowie an der Hebrew University of Jerusalem studiert und promovierte 2021 an der Universität Bonn im Fach Islamwissenschaft. Ihre Doktorarbeit befasst sich mit prominenten deutschen Konvertiten zum Islam in der Nachkriegszeit. Während ihres Studiums lebte sie während Sprach- und Forschungsaufenthalten in Jordanien, Israel und dem Iran und bereiste viele weitere Länder der islamischen Welt.

Short Bio (English)
Dr. Esther Schirrmacher studied Islamic Studies and Middle Eastern languages (Arabic, Persian, Turkish) at the University of Bonn/Germany as well as at Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received her PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Bonn in 2021. Her doctoral dissertation focused on prominent German converts to Islam in the postwar period. She has authored books about Salafism, martyrdom and the Iranian Revolution.
During her studies, she lived in and traveled through Jordan, Israel and Iran as well as many other countries in the Islamic world. She now works as the Islamic Relations Coordinator of the World Evangelical Alliance and teaches on the topic of Islam.
